NYC Mayor Advises New York Residents to Avoid Holiday Travel

  • The mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio said Tuesday during a news conference that New Yorkers should not travel out of the state for the holidays
  • He further doubled down on the need to stay away from states and countries with high infection rates
  • De Blasio also urged the federal government to require all incoming air travelers to get tested for COVID-19 and have a negative result within 72 hours of entry into the state
  • The New York travel advisory list currently includes more than 40 states and jurisdictions that require mandatory quarantine for anyone arriving in the tri-state area (New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut)
  • New York City currently has more than 266,000 coronavirus cases, more than half the total number of cases in the state
